It drives me nuts too. I love Akismet cause you don’t need it and you get almost no spam to deal with. I also recently switch out forms at work over to Wufoo which uses a similar technique to kill spam and we don’t get any (used to be 50 a day). Akismet is also ported to many different platforms so there are uses for most things.

I hate captcha. I understand why it is so useful in blocking spam but sweet jesus do they have to make it so that even real people can’t use it?
