Woah…Pepsi Re-design?

ArrayPepsi Redesign?

Apparently Pepsi has decided to re brand, or at least that’s what Brand New is reporting. Not so sure I like it. Theres something sacred about the old Mt dew type treatment. :) More Pics after the jump!

Ugh! Do not want! Why would they mess with such a classic, well-recognized brand? On a similar note, have you noticed that Sam’s Club and Walmart have updated their logos?

    I heard it’s just a marketing stunt…
not really a redesign, but i’m not sure

I think the new logo is horrible. It’s taking away from that 1960′s branding that has worked forever. And I think that the Dew’s type treatment is too modern for its age.

I hope the actual Sierra Mist label looks better than this mockup, cause this version is making my eyes bleed staring at it. If I’m at a store picking out something to drink I’ll be forced to look away and grab a Sprite instead!

Love it! Clean, modern, nod to classic but new direction. Don’t fall so in love with your brand that your not willing to evolve.

  11. Zach LeBar October 26th

    Comment Arrow

i think this is a fake, designed by someone just out of design school as a prank. It’s stupid and poorly designed. if i start seeing these in the stores, im going to have to question the sanity of pepsi’s board of directors.

The Obama Media team called, they want there design back. LOL

The bottles themselves are ok but the design, common! That is SO bad.

They took the clean look that’s popular and took it way too far.

The Sierra Mist design is ok…
    But all the others SUCK.

Why change such a well known brand? Especially to something that looks like someone who’s knew to Photoshop/Illustrator tried to copy the Pepsi logo?

    Weird….

  24. Skylar October 27th

    Comment Arrow

Nah, I don’t like it. Coke is epic, and the taste is good too! =D But I really don’t like this redesign. we’ll see what happens.

I don’t get it. I could live with the new bottle designs (maybe), but I don’t understand the thinking behind bastardizing the highly-recognizable Pepsi logo and brand. ‘Tis a shame.

And I know some people are thinking this is a joke, but when this artwork was found at the USPTO site, I tend to believe it. Whether it’s a hoax put upon by Pepsi itself…well, that might actually get points in my book for sheer ballsiness.

  26. Anthea October 27th

    Comment Arrow

    That is so messed up.
There was nothing wrong with the logo, if they wanted something new they could have changed things other than the logo.

Besides, in all these images the logo is inconsistent – retarded.

absolutely stunning. love IT? amazing. kudos. it takes major balls for corporations to embrace good design. this is fantastic design.
you may argue to go back to classic designs… but, approaching the brand as a clean slate. this is one of the best brand relaunches I have ever seen. no I’m not from Pepsi! I am designer, though.

  33. Chris Mejia October 28th

I bet if they go this route many Republicans will be reminded of the Obama logo and not buy Pepsi. IMO

    Hi there!
I read 90% of the comments and I found it amazing how typical people think and feel about a brand. It is often so that a restyling of a brand provokes a lot of negative responses. People will, most of the time, say that the restyling sucks, was badly done and that the old style was better. This, often not because the restyling really is bad but because people have to become familiar again with the look and feel of the brand. It is a simple mechanism and it is funny to see how true it is.

It maybe is like loosing a limb. At first you are in tears. Why? Why this happened? I want my limb back! Big no to all of this! But you can’t. What to do? Learn to live with it. In the end you will live your life again like before and go with the flow.
You may bring up that you will always be reminded to the lost limb. Then I’ll tell you that I hope that restyling a brand is not really like losing a limb to you.

Ask 10 people about their opinion and you will get 10 different answers. The best thing to do is throw it in the open. People will eventually get used to it and will say it was a good thing to change.

I have always perceived the pepsi brand as something extremely uncool and cheap. Not the brand you want to be seen with.
The redesign is more stylish, more BMW, more Gucci, … and gives the brand a more expensive look, clean look. Get rid of those cheap ass soft drink packages I say! But hey this is my opinion.

One more thing. Don’t be fooled by the mock ups. Photoshop skills aren’t the subject here.

  35. Rene October 29th

With the new symbol it looks like the bottle has had a stroke or brain damage. It won’t stop me from drinking it occasionally but it’s a waste of time and money.

Present symbol is very like the Yin-yang one. It presents balance and harmony with the world.

  37. tom October 29th

    Comment Arrow

they spend how much on branding of the old logo… and they think its a good idea to change it? thats as dumb as bush’s international polices. the bottles are ok nice clean look. if i were pepsi the only thing i might change about my logo is slight color changes. but throwing away a classic, well known, trusted brand while in a recession is something only a dork with a brand new mba might do.

  38. BT October 31st

    Comment Arrow

The look of the bottles…decent, I suppose. The logo, though? OMG, terrible! It’s not even consistent; it just looks like someone who’s never used Illustator’s pen tool trying to recreate what they had before. Their old logo was actually pretty balanced and nice (nothing groundbreaking, but still, very memorable). I’m mad at my NC company for stooping so low…

  39. Nick November 9th

    Comment Arrow

If they actually use these I will be sorely dissapointed in Pepsi.

The Pepsi logo itself is alright, but the Sierra Mist can? That has to be a joke. “Oh, I got it, it says ‘mist’, we should blur the font!!11″.

    Wow.

Oh man. I like it soo much. Really great. It is a very modern design.

  42. Bait45 November 18th

    Comment Arrow

I understand a move to a more modern and simplistic look, which done right can really streamline a brand. But this to me looks oversimplified, to the point of looking generic. And in my opinion the design, typeface and overall look of the Mtn Dew bottle looks like a cheap knockoff of previous Mountain Dew designs.

Finally willing to step out of the neo-pop art garbage of the nineties

a bit minimalist however i like the one on the diet pepsi, i found the others to be too obtuse loosing the “feel” of the original logo. as long as it tastes the same i can care less if it came in a milk cartoon.

  48. Debbie December 19th

    Comment Arrow

I have chosen Pepsi over Coke for more than 20 years because I like the taste just a little better. I found an empty can in my yard this morning (must have fallen out of a recycling truck that had come by), so I picked it up. I was surprised when I got closer to see that it was a Pepsi can redesigned. At first glance, I didn’t care for it – then I realized why. It is the Obama campaign symbol! I am an extremely visual person. It took me about 6 seconds to come to this horrible realization.

Pepsi, I am the one who is in the position to choose sides – not you. You have just lost a dyed in the wool Pepsi drinker who has sung your praises for so long, just because of your new design (by the way, I am all for “upgrades”, but this is one I just cannot support). Sorry. I will be searching out places that sell Coca-Cola from now on. They are much easier to come by, anyway.

  49. Chopper December 22nd

    Comment Arrow

Pepsi’s stock is may drop dramatically because the new logo looks too much like Obama’s logo. Many will have a visceral response to something that, on the surface, implies that Pepsico is no longer autonomous and/or neutral, but sold it’s soul to a politicial figure and/or party. The timing for this “change” was terrible.

  50. mac mcrae January 23rd

    Comment Arrow

It has all the hallmarks of an amateur branding job. The designer obviously knows nothing at all about typography or design. The placement is horrible, the font choices are horrible, the colors are horrible, the kerning is horrible, the font weight choices make no sense, the, photoshop filter on myst is just incredibly bad. All I can say is that the exec who green lit this highschool level design crap should be fired.

The whitetrash market that drinks this sugar-water won’t get it. Just like Tropicana it’s an over-design and Euro-stylization of an “All American” brand. It won’t last, I guarantee it.
