Duoh! Redesign Launched

Designer Veerle Pieters business site Duoh! has just undergone a redesign overhaul. It’s been in the works for almost a year now – kind of like the mechanics car that never gets fixed :)

The new design really grabs, but what is almost as interesting is Veerle’s blog post about how they ended up with the final design. It’s worth checking out.

God, Veerle is the internet’s one trick design pony. UGH. This website is atrocious.

Not knowing Veerle’s working very well, I would have to guess she has not done too much web design or usability testing.

I found this design SO confusing. Thankfully, she seems to have a solid base of people/clients and support so the design most likely won’t hurt her.

Well they were going for ‘swiss style’ design which is very modernist. Although she does use some heavy industrial typography, she mixes it with some very light text and thin graphics. It’s all very….’swiss-ish’ :)

It may come off a bit busy, but I think it does the job well.

Their portfolio highlights a few more laid back traditional pieces.

Am I the only one that can’t see the entire page? And scrolling is turned off or something.
    I feel very confused.

Ouch. I usually like anything by Veerle, but her new site is a SHOCKER!

    Where do I look?
    Where is the navigation?
How many fonts can you cram onto one page.
What’s up with the “powered by expression engine” everywhere… who cares Veerle!?

wow! I think her site is great, very well done and more unique than most of the cookie cutter crap you see online. Bold colors and shit that jumps right off the screen.

Cute how all the negative comments are from people who won’t display their own sites.

Nice! They have a subliminal sentence in the background image.

Veerle is a great decorator and she’s done a lot of contribution to the web community by offering technical tutorials.

However, there’s a difference between design and decoration. That’s something she and her fans will have to learn over time.

In answer to the question “how many fonts can you cram onto one page,” the answer is that Veerle simply used two fonts: Chalet, mainly for headings, and then Corbel for body copy. If you don’t have Corbel, the next choice in the CSS is Helvetica, and so forth. So, each person sees two fonts total.

Mmmm, reading all the comments, i realize that I am one of the few people who didn’t felt confused with the new design, lol. I can’t say I totally like it, but I think is good enough.

Confusing site, takes at least 10 seconds to adapt to. After adaptation though the site starts to come together in your head. But seriously please get rid of this fancy lingo because it is getting old and is practically used on every design site these days.
