Without doubt, my favorite resource for branding and identity design is a site called IdentityWorks. It has a huge series of brand reviews spanning a decade of famous rebrands and brands of companies like Walmart, Bell, Xerox.

Admit it – if you are a web designer (or a graphic designer) you probably have a inner nerd lurking around somewhere. Well let that nerd come out! I would love to have one of these little guys sitting on my desk while I work! Made by Nerdbots.

Slightly creepy, but definitely cool! Type drawings by Björn Johansson. These drawings are a triptych made for a gallery exhibition in 2005. The work is playing with the word “anatomy” which in typographic terms is referring to the different parts of a character.

Bored this weekend? Maybe you should make yourself a little photo flip book with Photoshop, a few tools and a DIY tutorial from PhotoJojo.
Sure you could just shoot a video on your camcorder, your camera, your webcam or your phone – but it’s not going to be nearly as cool (or time consuming) as this little project:

At one time, you needed a desk that could handle a mountain of paper, a two-foot-deep monitor, a printer, and a CPU the size of a Labrador. Today, your entire computer is an inch thick and your printer is in your closet connected to your WiFi. You have moved forward. It’s time your desk caught up. Desk by Heckler Design.

A paper-clip-inspired typeface with characte by Mugur Mihai.
Agrafa is a technical but versatile display face that works well in both large and small sizes. Most of the glyphs are made from one continuous line and shows the constraints of bending a paperclip/wire. The family consist of four weights, Hairline, Thin, Light and Book, last three also comes with an oblique companion. While Hairline works best for setting large headlines/words, the Book weight can be used even for small size texts.

How you present your work can often be as important as what you present. What order do you show the work, which work do you show, and how do you lay it out.
Although it’s probably not right for every occasion, ace designer Marius Roosendaal has a very unique and highly visual presentation technique that involved mocking up his work on textured backgrounds. I must admit the end results are stunning and he provides a more details button if you want to see the work a little larger.

Good, clean corporate design is a precious commodity, so it’s refreshing to see a great portfolio of such work. Benek Design are a New Zealand outfit that I came across via one of Niki’s post sources.
The portfolio uses a slightly bizarre sideways scroll that took me a moment to get, and features some really lovely, elegant design solutions. Interspersed between work are client testimonials – a really great way to deliver them.
