Designers For Obama

ArrayDesigners For Obama

Design/ers for Obama was created when Design Observer essentially asked the question, “how can graphic designers best support Barack Obama?” Our answer ended up extending the question to cover visual communicators at all levels. In addition to supporting Obama for America we jumped at the opportunity to bring the spirit of grassroots style organizing and collaboration to poster design which, to us, meant not only forming communal bonds but sharing the fruits of our efforts equally and in such a way that anyone can enjoy and benefit from (because most of us do not own our own printing presses).

Best Typefaces of 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004 – Typographica

Back before discovering iLoveTypography, one of my favourite typographic haunts was a site called Typographica (a name that later inspired Creattica).

The site isn’t updated that often, but has one of my favourite features in their Typefaces of the year series:

  1. Typefaces of 2007
  2. Typefaces of 2006
  3. Typefaces of 2005
  4. Typefaces of 2004

Since typefaces don’t age the way that say popular music does, there’s some great fonts to check out in those batches. I’m certainly looking forward to seeing the 2008 compilation.

Inspiration – Russian Avant-Garde Style

ArrayThe Russian Avant-Garde Book 1910-1934

MoMA has a great website that showcases Russian design from 1910-1934. Russian graphic design has always been my favorite (or call it an obsession). Whats not to love about strong colors and geometry (sprinkled with a little bit of communist propaganda? :) )

Anyways…hope you find this inspiring!

Create a Brand for the USA – Student Competition

ArrayBrand America

World famous FutureBrand who do work for such giants as British Airways, Nissan and Tesco are hosting a student contest to design a brand for the United States of America for their CountryBrandIndex.

Frankly I have no idea what their CountryBrandIndex is, but I do know that contests like this are not only good for practicing your skills but also look fantastic on your resume when you graduate. The prizemoney ($1000) probably wouldn’t go astray either!

You can get details on entry (they close on Oct 10th) from the Contest Site
